History of Saitual

Formerly Saitual was known as Saihmar Khan. The city was founded by Dorawta Sailo. In the year 1912, Dorawta Sailo, who who after conversion desired to create a Christian settlement. In the beginning, about 16 families joined them but later in the year 1916 more people joined them. With the increase of population colleges and schools and other facilities were developed. However there is confusion as to who created the village. According to the dissenters, in the year 1914, about 12 families had already settled in Saitual. The village, since the emergence was located in Sailo lands. Dorawta Sailo became the Chief of this village but unfortunately died in the year 1915. The town also celebrated its centennial year in 2015.

Demographics of Saitual

According to the 2011 census the total population of Saithual is 11,619. Out of the total population 5,727 are males and 5,892 are females. The average literacy rate of the town is 83%. The official language of Saithual is Mizo.

Tam Dil Lake

Tam Dil Lake is a reservoir lake located about 6 km from Saitual and about 110 kms from the capital city of Aizawl. The Mizoram Fishery Department reconstructed the lake as part of building a fishing reservoir. The Tourism Department maintains the Lake-side resorts. Tam Dil Lake literally means ‘Lake of Mustard’. In their local Language ‘?am means a mustard plant’ and ‘Dil means lake’.

Palak Lake

Palak Lake is the largest natural lake located in the state of Mizoram near Phura village. The lake is situated about 391 kms to the south of Aizawl.The lake is oval in shape and the surrounding areas of the lake is covered with lush green forests. It is a popular tourist place in Mizoram.

Reiek Tourist Spot

It is one of the worth visiting tourist attraction in Mizoram. Reiek Tourist Spot located about 30 kms from Aizawl; it’s only an hour drive from the capital city. It is mostly famous for the mountain on which the village of Reiek is located. This place gives the visitors mind-blowing views of the lush green hills and the Tlawng River. Hmuifang

This is another must visit tourist place in Mizoram. Hmuifang is amountain located about 50 kms to the south of Aizawl. The mountain has an altitude of over 1619 metres. Located at the scenic peak of the mountain is the Hmuifang Tourist Resort. The resort is maintained by the Mizoram Tourist Department. The beautiful cliffs surrounding the mountain offer mesmerizing sight to the tourist. The surrounding forest is a place for nature lovers and it is rich in rare orchids, avifauna and wildlife.
